World Values Survey Vietnam (2001)
Sample Design
- To gather a nationally representative sample using area probability sampling method, 20 provinces were randomly chosen among the 61 provinces of the country.
The chosen provinces were distributed across eight census regions.
- Of the 20 provinces, a proportionate sample calculated by the provinces population determined the number of districts to be drawn for each province.
- From each chosen district, two villages or wards were randomly selected.
- For each village or ward, eight households were chosen using a designated-walk procedure.
- A member of the household who is over 18 and has the closest birthday was approached for the interview. No other person may be substituted.
- The desired sample was 1,000. The number of households contacted included an over-sampling of 1,300 for estimated potentially high non-response rates.
- Interviewing was conducted between August 28 and September 30, 2001.
